Colonoscopy examines the full length of the large intestine with a flexible video scope, advised for bleeding per rectum, persistent change in bowel habit, chronic diarrhoea or constipation, unexplained anaemia or weight loss, and colorectal cancer screening from age 45 or earlier with a family history.
The procedure is done under sedation with continuous monitoring, and biopsies or polyp removal are performed in the same session, which is both diagnostic and preventive since removing polyps reduces future cancer risk.
You receive written bowel-preparation instructions in advance, and are discharged the same day with the report, biopsy details and a follow-up plan.
