What This Service Covers
Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy examines the food pipe, stomach and first part of the small intestine using a flexible video scope, used for acidity and reflux that is not settling, difficulty swallowing, persistent vomiting, unexplained anaemia, suspected ulcers and upper GI bleeding.
Procedures are performed under sedation in a dedicated endoscopy room with monitoring, and biopsies, polyp removal, dilatation or bleeding control can be carried out during the same session when required.
Scopes are cleaned and disinfected to standard protocol between patients. Most patients are observed briefly and discharged the same day with a written report and a clear treatment plan.

It is done under sedation, so most patients feel little or nothing and do not remember the procedure.
How long do I need to fast?
Usually 6 hours for solids and 2 hours for clear fluids. Exact instructions are given when you book.
Can I go home the same day?
Yes, after a short observation period. Please arrange for someone to accompany you home after sedation.
